At the hub several of our visitors have told us they love cooking but live alone so never really feel it is worth bothering cooking for one. They suggested a community led lunch where anyone is welcome and everyone helps prepare, cook and then eat together. So.. we are giving it a try. This will be done in conjunction with Settle Timebank and people helping out on the day can earn timebank credits.
We are delighted to announce that we have received some funding from the Two Ridings Community Foudnation from the Life Less Lonely Project to support these lunches and other Settle Timebank activities.
They will be held throughout 2018 on the 2nd and 4th Thursday each month between 10am and 2pm in the small meeting room at Settle Quaker Meeting House.
The idea is that people can meet up from 10am for a cuppa and a chat.. then everyone will help out to prepare lunch. Whether you can cook or not there are always jobs to do, helping chopping, collecting ingredients, laying the table, serving, washing up.. and you can learn some cookery skills.
The Quakers is a fully accessible venue with plenty of space for wheelchairs or parking scooters. There will always be gluten free options available and we can also cater for vegan or other diets if you let us know. A suggested donation of £3 or more on the day would be appreciated.
Sarah Wiltshire will be taking the lead on this project and organising the lunches and other Timebank activities.
This is still a bit of a work in progress so if you have any suggestions or would like to help out in any way get in touch. Please let us know if you plan to come so we know how many to feed. For more info or to book pop in during our drop-ins (Tuesdays 10-4 or Fridays 12-5) or email Sarah Wiltshire on firstname.lastname@example.org or phone her on 07977 040329.
